Hello and Welcome to Restroom Critic

Posted on | September 30, 2006 |

This site is going to be used to share my enthusiasm for bathroom cleanliness, fixtures, new products and to put you in touch with information that can help your bathroom remodeling needs, or if you are concerned about the cleanliness of public bathrooms in and around Denver.
This site is in the beginning stages, and if someone knows of a Wordpress guru, please have them contact me. I have big plans for this site. Again, welcome and thanks for stopping by. Tell your friends, please.

In honor of my coworker, Erin, whom just bought her first house with husband Michael, I am featuring vessel sinks.

Vessel Sinks

Vessel sinks, which sit on top of the countertop instead of inside it, are moving into elegant, modern and artistic designs.
As they’ve grown in popularity, the styles have expanded from hammered copper or mosaic into steel, glass, porcelain and more.
More people are choosing them because the bathroom taking on a more visual focus rather than just functional. Homeowners put particular emphasis on powder rooms and master baths.

A vessel sink creates a dramatic visual line, especially when paired with a faucet with a fountain or waterfall-like stream.
It offers flexibility as well. In a small bathroom, a vessel sink opens up precious cabinet space.
Such sinks are also easier to install in an existing piece of furniture, such as an antique vanity.

PROS OF VESSEL SINKS
• Artistic look
• Allow for a more creative setup — faucet knobs can go on the wall, behind the vessel,
to one side of the vessel or on each side.
• Free up cabinet space
• Easier to add to existing piece of furniture
CONS OF VESSEL SINKS
• More expensive
• Can be messier; more water splashes on counter
• Can interfere with the medicine cabinet
• Require extra plumbing when using a wall-mounted faucet — pipes must be extended
• Not ideal for children’s bathrooms because of extra splashing
