Decorating the Loo for the Holidays
Posted on | December 7, 2006 |
If you are a fan of decorating for the holidays, then you may also be of the mindset that no room goes untouched. And by no room, I mean NO ROOM goes untouched. Yes that means the loo. Doesn’t the loo deserve to be decorated too?
Whether you just throw a stocking on the mantel or go out and spend $100 on a Frasier Fir tree that you line with all handmade ornaments, decorating each room can be easy. Here are some simple ideas to start with.

$10 and under - The I’m lucky if I get a tree up budget
Start with a deep red, green, or light blue hand towel ($7) and a specialty Kleenex ($3) box from Target. Place it on the back of your toilet.
$15 - Well I won’t have a coffee this week and instead decorate the bathroom budget
On top of that same towel, add a candle. Pick a red, or a white, or red and white, or green and white, or red, white, and green, or…or….you get the picture.
OR line white tea light candles in small clear cups ($.50/each at Michaels)
OR grab a glass bowl from the cupboard and fill it with old ornaments that won’t fit on the tree. You don’t have extra ornaments? Just purchase a box of multi-colored ball at Big Lots. If you are trying to create ambiance for a party, try floating some white star candles (6 for $6.95) in that same bowl.
OR Have a shelf? Cover it in cute Christmas doo dads that don’t fit anywhere else in the house like in the above picture. If you have a box of candles that you never burn or different candle holders, pull out the color appropriate ones and lay them out. Play around, see what works. If you do not have candles, run don’t walk to Michael’s and buy those pillars that they always have on sale for $1-$3. Go on, get crazy and create a color scheme of all green and silver, or pink and red different sized and shaped candles.
$25 Jackpot, I found a $20 in last year’s winter coat budget
Feeling down and dirty in the spirit of Christmas?
Get some scented cinnamon pinecones ($14.95) from Crate and Barrel for that glass bowl.
Put out some of these snowflake Guest towels ($3.95/each) from Crate and Barrel, and while your at it, BAM, throw down some snowflake soaps for your guests because at $.95 each, they might as well be free!
Want something with a little more color, use that 20% coupon you’ve been saving for a week for these holiday hand towels ($7.99) at Linens and Things.
$40+ The I am all IN budget
How about adding a fun Glass Tree to that toilet back to go with your candles for 4.95 from CB2.com
With a wreath hook, hang a wreath over the door to welcome guests with fresh balsam.
The all out Griswold Bathroom and keeping up with the Jonses
Create an all out Christmas extravaganza. Go on, go get that matching Santa bathmat and shower curtain that you were looking at on EBay. Get a candy cane toilet seat cover and matching rug. I know you want to.
For the love of all things Christmas, stop! No, you don’t want that! Really? For the bathroom? Alright if you must, get out your credit card and buy the holiday toilet paper but I insist that you must be simultaneously playing Bing Crosby’s White Christmas.
